The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) allocates funding across three categories: Core Supports, Capital Supports, and Capacity Building. Each category serves a specific purpose, ensuring participants receive the right level of support based on their needs and goals. Each participant’s plan is structured to provide the right support, but knowing how to effectively manage these funds is key to unlocking their full potential. This is where the right guidance, particularly from a skilled Plan Manager, can make all the difference. They provide financial insights, helping participants track spending and maximise their budgets.
Core Supports budget cover everyday assistance such as personal care, transport, and consumables. These funds are generally more flexible, allowing participants to move funds between various support categories as their disability support needs change. On the other hand, Capital Supports budget is designed for funding long-term solutions, such as assistive technology and home modifications, ensuring participants have access to essential tools for greater independence. Capacity Building funding focuses on skill development covering supports such as therapy, training, and employment assistance to improve independence and
community participation. It is not flexible like core supports budget as participants cannot move the funds from one category to another. Plan Management support is funded through the category Improved Life Choices under the capacity building budget. There is no out of pocket expense for the participants when it comes to plan management. Unlike agency-managed plans, plan-managed participants can access both registered and non-registered providers, expanding their choices for services and support.
